Understanding Dr. Chris Avila’s Approach to Acupuncture
When patients ask how acupuncture works, the answer often depends on the practitioner’s perspective. Dr. Chris Avila shares how he approaches diagnosis and treatment through the lens of Eastern medicine, particularly when working with complex or idiopathic conditions.
Acupuncture is a complex system for diagnosing and treating a wide range of conditions. It is a valuable system that enables the treatment of idiopathic conditions that do not fit neatly into Western medical classifications.
From night sweats and unusual pains to symptoms that cannot be detected through laboratory testing or physical examination, acupuncture is designed to treat these patterns of imbalance.
With acupuncture, I use needles, electrical stimulation, heat, or herbal options to treat presenting conditions. The acupuncture points chosen relate directly to each person’s specific presentation. For example, if you present with insomnia and vertigo, the chosen points would differ from someone experiencing insomnia and digestive issues. Each person requires a different approach.
My background in Eastern medicine allows me to treat a range of health concerns, from hormonal imbalances, digestive issues, and insomnia to everyday aches and pains.
